Our Place: A Poetry Break

Sitting here across from you at this little Italian bistro

Feels surreal

Watching the candlelight highlight every smile line across your face

Reminds me of the sun coming up from the horizon

Soft jazz plays in the background

Creating a world where I only see you

The laughter in your eyes turns intense, darkening just enough to create a spark

Something magical and unknown

I want to know everything; I want to uncover what that look means

I start to fidget in my seat

My nerves set a flame

Your smile becomes a smirk because you know exactly what you do to me

Your hands reach out for mine across the table; you grab a hold, sliding up my arm and back to my hand

Making my hair stand on end, producing goosebumps with each drag of your fingertips against my skin.

I shiver as you link each of our fingers one by one, starting with my pinky and ending with your thumb

Connecting us.

It’s unnerving, yet it’s everything I have ever wanted.
